Meet the Artist:
 Kathleen Tannian Sheehan

Award Winning Artist

Kathleen is a life long artist, always drawing  as a child growing up in New England.

Originally  working in watercolor and color pencil, Kathleen was largely self taught as a young adult.

 In more recent years,Kathleen returned to school and was trained at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for oil painting and print making. PAFA offers  classical painting training.

Kathleen raised her children as a single parent and supported herself and her children with her founding of  The Playful Cottage Art Center, headquartered in Spring Mount Pennsylvania.  The art center focused on theme drawing classes- and ran for more than 20 years. Being a nature lover, she offered  Drawing for Amateur Naturalist programs, as well as teaching portrait and figure drawing through popular subject matter such as drawing characters from Disney, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Flower Fairies, and American Girls.

Today Kathleen continues to work with children in the Special Education field. 


Kathleen work in the arts is now  focused on providing portraits and other artwork in commissioned work.


Kathleen's work here includes illustrations from storybooks that she wrote and illustrated and hand bound for her children. Other illustrative work was done for folk music organizations where Kathleen is an active community member.

Kathleen has lived on the banks of the Perkiomen Creek for the last 30 years enjoying the natural surroundings that Spring Mountain provides.
Kathleen has received  many awards for her paintings as well as for her carving of pumpkins. 
She has been carving for over 30 years, her woodcuts use a similar method of surface carving relief that is worked in reverse for print making.
